Managing Dadhood

I cheated...

Tuesday, March 31, 2009

At the end of last year I dieted and exercised and lost 30 lbs.  It felt awesome.  Thank you Mr. Atkins.

Since then I haven't been to careful.  It just feels so good to eat like crap!  So Marci had teacher appreciation week last week and got tons of candy and sweets and I was chowing down when she recommended we stop eating sweets until Easters.

First reaction = Anger.
Second reaction = Eat more candy
Third reaction = Realize she's right.

So I agreed to start but I gave myself a couple more days to eat the candy since this
was on Saturday and I said we should start on Monday (yesterday).

Well, we started yesterday... at least that's what Marci thought.  But while she was gone
at work I drank root beer.  Then, after she went to bad I ate the rest of the oreos and some left over cookie dough.  It felt so good.  I went to bed a happy, fat man.

Diet started today.  Sorry Marce.

New Words

One of my favorite things is when Ellie learns new things.  Recently she's started trying to say a lot of new words.  She now says:

Mama
Dada
Duck
Mimi
Jeff
Baaaaa (like a sheep)
Baby
Grandma - only one time

It's pretty awesome and it makes me so proud.  The words we're working on now are Monkey, Ellie, & Touchdown.

Mama Called the Doctor...

Monday, March 9, 2009

Ellie is sick again.  She gets lots of colds.  I think it's normal for kids to get sick a lot during the winter.  I'm just hoping it doesn't turn into another ear ache.

The weird thing about Ellie getting sick is that every time she's gotten sick I have gotten sick too. Before Ellie I never used to get sick.  Maybe twice during the whole time we've been married.  But this year I've been sick four times.  I think it's weird because Marci hasn't gotten sick all of those times and she is with her just as much as I am.  My immune system must be failing me in my older age.
Two positives about being sick:
  1. Marci takes really good care of me.  It's always nice to get special sick treatment at home.
  2. Ellie lets me hold her a little more.  Still not a lot, but I just put her to bed and she let me hold her and rock her while she laid her head on my shoulder and fell asleep.  It was adorable!

Leaf Eater

Sunday, March 8, 2009

My new favorite thing is playing outside with Ellie.  It's so funny to put her down on the grass bare foot and watch her figure out what that prickly sensation is.  Of course she always figures out that it is a good thing and proceeds to romp around the yard eating every leaf in her path. She especially likes the cart in the yard that holds the garden hose.  Every time she sees it she starts racing over to climb on it.  I never let her of course because I don't want to have to change her clothes after they get all dirty from it.

Being outside feels so good when it's warm and sunny.  It makes the day go by so much faster, everyone is way happier and Ellie loves it.  She loves the little baby playground swings and just laughs while I push her.  It's hilarious.

What's the deal with March?  It's like 65 one day, and the next day I wake up and everything is covered in snow?  Irritating.  Plus the new car is black and even though I wash it every week it always looks filthy from the little storms.

I can't wait for summer to get here, and for a California winter
 next year.

*Funny story.  Last time I played outside with Ellie she was on a
roll eating leaves as fast as possible before I could grab them from her.  After we had been back inside the house for about 45 minutes she spit out this little brown thing.  After investigating the little surprise package that came from her mouth, turns out IT WAS A LEAF!  It was all folded into a nice little bundle and she had been storing it in her mouth for almost an hour.  Funny little girl.
