Morning Routine

The morning routine is one of my favorite and least favorite parts of the day.  It officially starts between 6:30 and 7 a.m. when little Ellie wakes up.  Marci has to get up at this time and get Ellie.  She usually brings E into the bed and feeds her.  I wake up shortly, usually touch Ellie or kiss her and then fall back to sleep.  Then about 20 minutes later Ellie takes over the bed.  Marci and I lie in bed trying as hard as we can to sleep a few more minutes while Ellie crawls all over us and tries to pull things off the wall.  She also does this thing where she bangs her head against the wall, on purpose, over and over.  It's weird.  Should I be worried about her?

Then, when Ellie is sick of the bed, one of us has to take her into the front room.  Sometimes we both go, sometimes I take her so Marci can sleep a little longer, and sometimes Marci takes her so I can sleep longer.  It's a great display of team work.

In the front room, Marci and I grab our blankets and lay on the lovesac and try to rest some more while Ellie plays with her toys.  This used to work out fine before Ellie could crawl.  Now, she plays for a little and then she takes off for the kitchen or the bathroom.  So we can't rest as much as we used to.  The front room playtime lasts about 30 minutes, until about 8 a.m.

Then Ellie is a little bored since we're not actively playing with her and she lets us know.  So Marci gives her a bath.  Sometimes I take advantage of this time to fall asleep again.  Sometimes I feel bad so I'll sit in the bathroom during bath time, or eat breakfast.  By the time Ellie's bath is over, we're pretty awake now so the rest of the morning is spent trying to keep Ellie happy while we try and shower and get dressed and eat, etc.

The morning routine is awesome family time and it's hilarious because all Marci and I want to do is sleep, and all Ellie wants to do is play with us.  So the morning struggle is always fun.  But sometimes I just wish I could sleep in until 10, 9, or even 8!   Ahhhhh.  Maybe someday.

i love our morning routine...even if it's been beginning at 5:30 am lately :) there's nothing better than snuggling all together in bed on a cold winter/spring morning.....other than sleeping, that is. xoxo
